energy system development

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Energy system development (commonly known as fitness or conditioning) is made up of three systems - ATP-PC, anaerobic and aerobic. Although each system serves a different purpose, they work collectively, making them invariably linked.

Research has shown that one system is typically more dominant than another at a given time. Targeting each system with appropriate programming is, therefore, necessary to gain the desired adaptation.

Of the systems, I believe everyone must have a relative baseline level of aerobic fitness. A strong foundation provides the physical durability necessary to delay the onset of fatigue. It enables you to perform efficient and effective training at higher intensities for extended periods.

Improving your aerobic fitness allows a substantial increase in the amount of work you can complete during a session. It additionally enhances the recovery process, allowing for a more considerable body of work overtime.
